Falconry Experiences at Lainston House Hotel

With 63 acres of Hampshire countryside at our disposal, we thought it was high time to offer our hotel guests something unique and truly spectacular! So we invite you to get up close and personal with our beautiful birds of prey including Benji and Bella our Bengal eagle owls, Harris hawks Lottie and Jacob and Barn owls Mumble our Chaco Owl.

And welcoming Anna, our brand new pure Kazakh Golden Eagle!

On site FALCONRY displays

Experience the true art of falconry with Billy, our resident falconer. Located in the fantastic surroundings of our Kitchen Gardens, residents and non-residents alike will be welcomed to enjoy our weekly displays on Sundays where you’ll be able to see a selection of birds and be able to talk to our resident expert, Billy Taylor.

Sunday display at 11:30aM

The display will last 45 minutes. After the display, our birds will be on perches for you to view with a question and answer session at 12:45pm with our falconer, Billy.

Every Sunday from 1st March - 30th September

No displays on the last Sunday of each month between the 1st October - 28th February

Falconry Experiences

Not only do we have our weekly display open to all but private demonstrations and interactive birds of prey experiences are also available to book. Take the opportunity to get ‘hand-on’ with one on one or small group. Hawk Walks, Hunting with Hawks and Meet the Birds are all designed to give you new experiences and leave lasting memories. Birds of prey experience days are ideal for all ages - perhaps a perfect gift?

A morning or afternoon spent with our harris hawks is quite unforgettable. You will meet the hawks, observe their individual characteristics and see close up the partnership that exists between falconers and their birds. You will be given the opportunity to try hunting with the hawks as well as to train them with Billy. For the full day experience, bacon rolls with coffee and a two course lunch is also included per person.

£95 per person for 2 hours.

Hawk Walks – Approx 1 hours duration

Join Billy and fly his Harris Hawks around some stunningly beautiful Hampshire countryside. You will have the chance to see these magnificent birds of prey in their natural environment.

Hawks will fly between the 1st September and 1st March, during the spring and summer months we are able to host this experience with our Owls.

£55 per person for a Hawk Walk

Flying experience – 1 1/2 hours

For those wishing to make the very most of the opportunity and sample falconry in its true form join Billy and his birds! Billy will train you to handle and fly a selection of raptors.

Sports of Kings – Half Day (2 hours) or Full Day (6 hours)

For those wishing to make the very most of the opportunity and sample falconry in its true form join Billy who will show you how to train the falcons after which you will have the opportunity to hunt with them

The full day Sports of Kings Experience also includes: bacon rolls and coffee on arrival, two course lunch in the Avenue Restaurant and the Experience too!

Half Day - £125 per person

Full Day - £250 per person

Raptor Experience – (40 mins) or Full Day (6 hours)

Billy will introduce at least two raptors to you explaining their characteristics and quirks before training you on how to handle and fly these beautiful birds.

The full day Raptor Experience also includes: bacon rolls and coffee on arrival, two course lunch in the Avenue Restaurant and the Experience too!

Static & Flying Display

For corporate events or weddings why not WOW your guests with an amazing flying display from Billy’s wonderful birds. The birds will be tethered so that your guests can get a close view of their natural beauty and Billy will fly them and answer any questions they might have. Please note this is not an interactive experience. The display will last approx 20 minutes but additional displays can be purchased.

£250 for a Static Display (1 hour)

The Perfect Proposal

Looking for a proposal with a difference? Look no further! Come to us and enjoy a late lunch, take a stroll through the grounds before having an owl soar to you with a ring in his grasp. What could be more perfect?

Wedding Ring Bearer

What better way to have your wedding rings delivered on your special day than with a beautiful Barn owl flying silently down to the aisle. An amazing experience and one your wedding guests will never forget. The owl will deliver your rings and will stay around after the ceremony for your guests to take a closer look.

£275 for Ring delivery and 20 minute static display (flying display not included)

Why not sponsor your very own bird of prey. Sponsorship will go directly towards the day to day costs of care, including feeding, maintenance and veterinary costs. The perfect unusual gift for all ages!
